As someone who has written about travel on the internet for 8 years, I was keen to explore family travel as soon as possible after having my daughter, Indiana. Of course, the reality was a little different than expected (turns out motherhood is actually quite tricky) and we didn’t get around to taking our first trip abroad as a family until she was 10 months old.
This is us – Manuel, Julia and little Mrs T. We live in beautiful Vienna, Austria and love to travel. We recently went to Madrid with our toddler to visit my sister-in-law, who was teaching at a Spanish school at that time, and my husband was running the EDP Rock ‘n’ Roll Madrid Half-Marathon.
If you are like us and love to spend your time in a city exploring on foot, then Barcelona is the place for you! We had chosen Barcelona as our first international trip with our 3 month old baby because we were excited about getting to spend the majority of our time outside and we loved the idea of being able to get around without needing to hop in a cab.
We were pleasantly surprised to find Barcelona so baby friendly. They may not have high chairs at the restaurants and the locals eat much later than we are accustomed to, but to us baby friendly means that we feel comfortable bringing our baby everywhere we go. Our daughter was welcomed everywhere we went in Barcelona and attracted a lot of attention from the locals. Though she was only 3 months old at the time of our trip, it was obvious to us what a great family destination Barcelona is.
